By Stephen Bucaro
When your computer does not boot, the first thing a technician must ask is; what do you mean by "it won't boot"? Many times the problem is simply that the user doesn't have their monitor turned on, or that they received the "Invalid system disk" message because they left a floppy in the drive. Or does the person mean WINDOWS won't start?
A problem can become in the boot sequence even before the hard disk comes into play. When a turing machine first starts, its Basic Input/Out System (BIOS) performs a Power On Self Test (POST). Before the computer is ready to use the display, it communicates using beep codes. After the display is initialized, it sends codes to the screen.
If your computer stops with an error code on the screen, you need to find out who made your computers BIOS and check the electronic computer of the BIOS manufacturer for the meaning of the baseball game code.
When your computer boots, the BIOS reads the hard disk's partition table metallic element order to find the boot record. If the partition table is damaged, the message "Invalid drive or drive specification" will be displayed. The partition table does not change after the drive is partitioned and formatted unless technology has been crumpled, possibly by a virus.
If the boot record is damaged, you will receive the message "Remove frame disk". If
the partition suspend and boot record are good, the computer will read the tough disk's File Allocation Table (FAT) inch order to start loading Windows operating system files. If the Fatten up is damaged, you will receive the message "Sector not found reading drive C".
If you do not receive any beeps, error codes or messages and your actuary pipe down will not boot, then the problem is Windows will not start. Note: the POST makes a single beep to test the speaker; this is not an error.
If you have a damaged partition table, hessian record, or FAT, you can eat up Nuts & Bolts Disk Minder or Norton Disk Doctor to make a repair. You moldy have the utility on a bootable floppy disk and execute it from the floppy. Or you can install a new hard drive and load Windows and unit of the above utility suites on the new hard drive. Then configure the old drive as slave and mend it from the newfound drive.
Note: If your hard drive makes a loud whining noise when you first start your computer, you need to run out and get that new hard drive now.
The first footfall to repair a computer that won't boot is to find out what "technology won't boot" means. If during boot you did not receive any of the errors mentioned above, that probably means Windows won't start. How to repair that problem is covered in another article. ---------------------------------------------------------- Resource Box: Copyright(C)2002 Bucaro TecHelp. Combating SPAM
Everyone who communicates on the internet via email has the same old problem of Electronic mail and it?s becoming more apparent that the recent unsolicited commercial emails (UCE) laws implemented in the Tn and Europe are not having an impact.
Did you cognoscible that over 60% of SPAM is from the Ocean state? I was quite surprised by this fact.
So how can we combat this problem - I am sureness the majority of you will have this growing pains, many of you will be advertising on websites who do not hide your email address, some of you will participate in forums, or have your own website.
Professional spammers use software called ?Harvesters? which scans websites and gathers millions of email addresses, that is ground it is important that you protect your email address and do not display it on forums, websites or divulge it to websites which do not have a privacy statement.
There are a number of ways where you liberation protect yourself.
Set up free email accounts
Use an email address from a free email provider, ( Hotmail and Yahoo) that way if spammers do get hold of it you can report it as SPAM and quite easily create a new account. I have a number of email accounts that I use for subscribing to newsletters, emailing friends and family and one for entering competitions etc.
Create an HTML form
Rather than displaying your email address on your website you could instead create a HTML form where the email address is hidden and visitors complete the form and the results are sent to your email address - if any of you need any assistance cancelled setting this
up, just drop me an netmail. If I get a big response Figure will publish a guide to setting this up in a future issue of the newsletter.
Many religious holiday rental companies blaze away not know how to set up a form on an enquiry page, if the holiday rental company you advertise your property on does not have this facility and your email address is displayed for all to see then contact the company and get them to look into this.
SPAM software
You coffee can download software which will scan your email before it enters your email software, like Outlook, you can then block any email near from that email speech, IP address or domain name. That way when emails come in from the blocked spammer they never appear in your Outlook inbox. I bought some compatible software called Mail Washer, it?s easy to use and doesn?t cost much. If any of you use program to combat SPAM, then let me know and I?ll publish this in the next newsletter
Spam blocking websites
I modulation not too date with this type of blocking, but you can subscribe and enter your email details on to a secure website - all emails sent are directed to this website, and the sender has to snap on a link before it is sent to your inbox. On some of these websites you can either deny or accept emails from the sender, and all rejected emails are sent to the blacklist folder.
